About NT

New Tradition Chorus works toward consistently improving its sound while enjoying the comradery of a group that is focused on excellence. Our membership includes people of all ages and represents a wide range of backgrounds and careers.

The Music we Sing

New Tradition Chorus has an extensive repertoire including Broadway numbers, popular music from the 40s to the 80s, patriotic melodies, and festive holiday favorites. While arrangements are primarily four-part a cappella, usually done in the barbershop style, the chorus has also performed with orchestras and with other instrumental accompaniment.

Performances

The New Tradition Chorus represents the Northbrook chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society (BHS).  It was founded in 1982 as a performing chorus and continues to put on two major productions a year, a Holiday Show in December and a Spring Show, usually in May.  In addition, the chorus has performed publicly for community festivals and concerts, appeared at senior facilities, and sung privately for company events.

Community Service

In addition to volunteering in the community, the chorus offers free music lessons through a 6 week singing program for adults and sponsors a Youth in Harmony festival for local high schools.

Competition

New Tradition Chorus competes annually in the Illinois District of the Barbershop Harmony Society’s Chorus Contest.  It consistently wins the District competition and, as a result competes in the chorus contest at the International Convention of BHS each July.

The Chorus has a proud history of competition and collectively, has won 19 medals at International Chorus Contests. Among the 19 medals was a streak of 8.
